JCI Eastern held their first event for 2012, the Australia Day fund-raising. For the past 20 years, JCI Eastern (or its former chapters before the amalgamation) has been an active supporter of the Australia Day twilight concert and fireworks organized by the Whitehorse City Council. Once again members and volunteers of JCI Eastern provided a team at this year’s event to raise money for UnitingCare, Burwood branch.
With Mayor Mark Lane (National President 2005), an associate member of JCI Eastern, being featured on the super screen in front of 15,000 people, the fund-raising team had a blast selling 450 glow bands, 40 large Australian flags, 90 flashing badges & 100 super popular flashing head boppers to the community members. The fund-raising was a huge success and JCI Eastern raised $1,479 on the night. This fantastic effort will provide a grant opportunity for UnitingCare (Burwood) to design a program specifically catered for the families in our local area who are in need of help.
To make this day extra special, Beverly Dixon, a past member of the Burvale chapter, received a Community Achievement Award from the Council for her ongoing dedication to the Whitehorse community.
