JCI Reunion: 22 April 2012

It has been long time coming. It was with great honoured that JCI Eastern hosted the JCI Reunion on Sunday 22nd of April 2012. We received so much positive feedback that we are thinking about doing it again next year!

On behalf of the Chapter, I thank everyone's support and to our National President, Natalie Viselli and Mayor Mark Lane of Whitehorse City Council for making an effort to be with us on the day. To see more pictures of the Reunion, visit the link below: http://www.facebook.com/jcieastern.

Doris' thoughts on volunteerism

I am Doris (Social Media Officer) and I have received an email from our President, Suzi, today about volunteering with JCI Eastern. Suzi received several enquires from potential volunteers about our projects. This is good news and as a keen volunteer and a member of JCI Eastern, I would like to share my thoughts about volunteerism.

Define "Volunteering": - It is up to each person's purpose to freely offer to do something. Volunteering is for any who are willing to contribute to build a better life.

What is it for?  For me, volunteering is simply a Mission that we all have a responsibility to carry it out. By doing so, we also benefit from volunteering. For example, as an oversea student, joining a group could help me warm up my heart, get rid of the loneliness, specially, join many social activities and fascinating journeys.

Busy, so what? I lead a busy life; studying, working and some socialising have made me very busy. But the importance of volunteering means I have learnt to prioritise. Let's volunteer with a heart., because it is definitely worth yourself while. The best lesson was shared by our President, Suzi. ^^ During Suzi's speech at the last year's Christmas party, we learnt about JCI Whitehorse Maroondah/Eastern's 2011 accomplishments including the of grant funding that we managed to secured for 2012. That speech made all of us feel our effort and hard work had been worthwhile.

Working Bee

We recently held a working bee at the Jaycee Hall to clear out our office. Our new member, Doris, who also happens to be our new Social Media Officer has shared her working bee story with us.

Everyone calls me Doris. Officially, I became a member of JCI Eastern this January. I have since taken up both the Social Media Officer and Membership Officer positions. I had a few questions when I first joined the Chapter. What does "membership" mean to people? And like me, James,  another new Chapter member also shared the same question and asked about the differences between being a JCI member and a volunteer. As explained by President Suzi, a volunteer is a keen community member who is willing to give something back to the community. A JCI member is more than just volunteering. A JCI member aims to creative positive change to the community and the World. A JCI member will strive to better his/her self, take the initiative and lead the positive change.

There are many reason for me to join JCI Eastern. One of these reasons is to learn from the experienced people like Bronwyn and Suzi who are keen volunteers and also a leader in the local communities. Sometimes I wondered how they keep themselves motivated. I think maybe it is the JCI passion. Passion of helping people, of sharing experiences with the others, of community spirits which bind us together. These are also the reasons why I join this Chapter.

I attended my first Committee meeting in March. President Suzi called for a working bee in mid March to clear out our Jaycee Hall Office. As a overseas student from Vietnam, my first thought was "what is working bee?". But now I know what a working bee is and here is some highlight from our March working bee session.

Yeah, working bee is :

Where is this?

Today, we spent half of a day preparing for the upcoming JCI Reunion on April 22nd 2012.

WOW, everything was done!!!

A little bit tired but enjoy some snadwiches and tea for lunch. Yummy yummy!!!

After working bee, we have chance to chat with our President Chapter Suzi, Secretary Bron and her husband Mark about the next plans. We are so very excited about our future projects, events and road trips.

Thanks so much, JCI Eastern.
